We’re in the middle of Medicare’s Annual Election Period (AEP) – the time when you can choose or update your Medicare coverage. And we know you’ve probably seen ads for Medicare Advantage plans with $0 premiums. What does this mean? ApexHealth wants to make Medicare simple to understand, including understanding $0 Medicare plans, the costs associated with these plans and what ApexHealth has to offer.
A premium is an amount you pay monthly to have insurance, whether you use the covered services or not. So, a $0 premium Medicare Advantage plan is a plan that charges $0 monthly to have that plan. Just remember that you’ll still need to pay your Medicare Part B premium each month, which is set annually by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Additional costs associated with Medicare Advantage plans are deductibles, copays and coinsurance. All of these costs vary by plan, so look closely. Also, remember that Medicare Advantage plans include an out-of-pocket maximum, which is the maximum amount you’ll pay annually for deductibles, copayments and coinsurance for covered medical services.
