A You Kind of Medicare

How to make the most of your health and wellness benefits

Are you getting started with an ApexHealth Medicare Advantage plan? Use your health and wellness benefits to stay healthy and live life boldly this year. Here are four ideas to begin your journey!

1: Take advantage of your ApexExtras

The first step to making the most of your Medicare Advantage benefits is to get to know your ApexExtras. These are supplemental benefits we’ve created to provide the care you need for the life you lead. Some of the extras we offer include:

  • Over-the-counter drug allowance and $0 generic Viagra
  • Allowance for glasses and contacts
  • Hearing aid allowance
  • Extra dental coverage
  • Chiropractic care, therapeutic massage or acupuncture
  • The Apex PayFlex card for eligible expenses like payment toward transportation or expenses related to dental and vision care

If you have any questions about how to make the most of your ApexExtras, give our ApexAssistants a call!

2: Use your fitness benefit

ApexHealth offers a fitness benefit to make it fun, affordable and easy to exercise more at local fitness centers and at home. According to The National Council on Aging (NCOA), there are some key benefits to exercise, including preventing bone loss, relieving osteoporosis pain, preventing chronic disease, boosting immunity and improving mood.

To help you reach your fitness goals, we offer a variety of perks through the Silver&Fit® Exercise and Healthy Aging program, including:

  • Access to local fitness centers and YMCAs
  • Online workout classes
  • Wearable fitness trackers
  • Exercise kits for activities like Pilates, swimming and strength

3: Schedule your wellness visits

Another important way to stay healthy this year is by scheduling your annual wellness visits with your health care provider. Some of these visits are even covered by Medicare! If you don’t already have a primary care provider (PCP), start by finding one. A PCP is important for coordinating your care and catching health problems earlier. Try our online search tool or get in touch with one of our ApexAssistants to find a provider near you.

4: Maximize your benefits with the help of ApexAssistants

At ApexHealth, we know that navigating health care and getting the most out of Medicare isn’t always easy. That’s why we connect you with an ApexAssistant to help you understand and use your benefits.

ApexAssistants can schedule doctor’s appointments (and remind you not to miss them), ensure access to routine care and supplemental benefits and support your personal goals. They will act as your advocate if you need special approval for services or the resolution of any issues. ApexAssistants are here to ensure that you have the best possible experience as a member, so be sure to reach out!

We hope these ideas can help you get started making the most of your benefits in the year ahead! Call (844) 279-0508 (TTY: 711) to speak with an ApexAssistant. Our hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. (local time) from Apr. 1 through Sept. 30 and seven days a week 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. (local time) from Oct. 1 through Mar. 31.
